(4)That / It was the first / second ... time + that從句。that從句的謂語用過去完成時。如:

It was the third time that he had mentioned the person.

I had intended to attend the ceremony， but I had to prepare a plan.

(1)過去進行時表示過去某一時刻正在進行的動作。如:

We were talking about the famous stars when the teacher came in.

(2)過去進行時也可表示過去某一時間段正在進行的動作。如:

Those days he was helping with my maths.

(3)表示按計劃、安排，過去某時將發(fā)生的動作。如:

They were leaving for Paris three days later.

(4)與always， usually， frequently， often， all the time等連用，表示說話人的贊美、厭煩等情緒。如:

She was always complaining about lacking money.
