1.連音(Liaison)
(1)輔音+元音
在一個詞組內(nèi)，如果前一個單詞以輔音結(jié)尾，后一個單詞以元音開頭，兩者經(jīng)常拼在一起讀。例如：get out of the car→get-out-of the car。
(2)元音+元音
在語流中，當(dāng)前一個詞以“r”音結(jié)尾，后一個詞以元音開頭時，經(jīng)常會在兩個詞之間添加一個輔音/r/作為連接。例如：answer it /'a?ns? it/→/'a?ns?-r-it/。
2.同化(Assimilation)
同化指在語流中，一個音受前面或后面語音的影響、發(fā)音變得與臨音相似或相同的現(xiàn)象，分為逆同化和順同化兩類。
(1)逆同化(Regressive assimilation)
逆同化比較常見，指語流中一個輔音受后面輔音的影響，發(fā)音方法和部位變得與其相似的現(xiàn)象。常見的同化現(xiàn)象包括以下幾類：
/t/出現(xiàn)在/p, b, m/之前，逆同化為/p/ 例如：that pen /ðæt 'pen/→/ðæp 'pen/
/t/出現(xiàn)在/k, g/之前，逆同化為/k/ 例如：that girl /ðæt 'g??l/→/ðæk 'g??l/
/d/出現(xiàn)在/p, b, m/之前，逆同化為/b/ 例如：good boy /gud 'b??/→/gub 'b??/
/d/出現(xiàn)在/k, g/之前，逆同化/g/ 例如：good girl /gud 'g??l/→/gug 'g??l/
/n/出現(xiàn)在/p, b, m/之前，逆同化為/m/ 例如：ten boys /ten 'b??z/→/tem 'b??z/
/n/出現(xiàn)在/k, g/之前，逆同化為/?/ 例如：ten girl /ten 'g??lz/→/te? 'g??lz/
/s/出現(xiàn)在/?, t?, d?, j/之前，逆同化為/?/ 例如：this shop /ðis '??p/→/ði? '??p/
/z/出現(xiàn)在/ ?, t?, d?, j /之前，逆同化為/?/ 例如：cheese shop /t?i?z '??p/→/t?i? ? '??p/
(2)順同化(Progressive assimilation)
順同化指在語流中后面的輔音被前面的輔音同化的現(xiàn)象。順同化并不常見，主要出現(xiàn)在成音節(jié)里。如happen /'hæpn/里的/n/，由于受到前面輔音/p/的影響順同化為/m/;organ /'??gn/里的/n/受到前面輔音/g/的影響順同化為/ ?/;動詞+ed的發(fā)音，清輔音+ed同化成/t/，濁輔音+ed同化成/d/。
